A Warm Welcome to our 2026 GACC Officers:

Chair- Steve Miller MD

I am looking forward to serving as Chair of the Avenues Community Council in 2026. I feel a great love for the Avenues and the people here. I was born and raised on the Avenues and attended Ensign, Bryant and East High School. I delivered newspapers from 5th-7th Avenue. For the past 32 years, I have lived in Federal Heights with my wife, Yasemin. Our five children have all attended SLCSD Schools. I have loved being an ENT Physician for more than 30 years and caring for many patients from the Avenues at my office near South Temple, LDS and Holy

Cross Hospitals. I have lived on the Avenues for nearly 50 years and I look forward to serving the community as your Council Chair. I hope you will all feel joy and a sense of belonging as you live in this terrific part of SLC.

Chair-Elect – Amy Merritt Smith

Four years ago, as a new resident of the Greater Avenues, I appreciated receiving the informative Agenda Newsletter. It educated and helped me appreciate both neighborhood benefits and challenges. Attending Community and Board meetings furthered my knowledge
and exposed me to a wonderful community of talented volunteers serving the neighborhood. Drawn in, I’ve chaired the Wildfire Preparedness Committee the past two years to inform
residents of this threat, and importantly, steps each of us can take to make our community safer. This past year I volunteered on the Street Fair Committee and marvel at how six months of work by a volunteer core group, and hundreds of event volunteers, creates the Street Fair
attended by 8,000 people. I look forward to serving with my fellow Executive Board members, and continuing the tradition of sharing information and devising approaches to serve the Greater Avenues.

Secretary – Jenn Beck

Jenn has been a member of the community since 1999. She and her husband Phil raised their four children here and LOVE the Avenues! She is excited to serve as the board Secretary this coming year and looks forward to meeting more of the amazing residents in the Greater Avenues area.

Treasurer – Lexi Hoggan

I’m looking forward to the opportunity to serve my neighbors as the GACC 2026 Treasurer. The Avenues has a very special place in my heart as she raised both my grandpa and my mom and hosts the most fabulous Street Fair! While this is my first board position, I started volunteering with the GACC via the Street Fair in 2018. I graduated from the University of Utah with a specialized degree rooted in Finance, was elected as the Director of Finance for the ASUU, and then worked at Goldman Sachs. I left to pursue a career in farming with a focus on regenerative
land use and supporting urban farmer’s distribution to neighbors. However, I am very excited to jump back into a financial role as I’ve missed it dearly. I love this community and feel humbly honored to give back in this role.
